Anvil Chorus's website is gettting a make-over. Well, actually it is an entirely new site built by John Eardley using the Drupal Content Management System. This is an extremely powerful open-source CMS, and provides the ability to create much more complex websites than the existing one I wrote from scratch.
I started the current website in September 2001 and it has grown into a large resource of archive material over the eight and a half years since then. It was the first website I built, and I really enjoyed learning how to do it. It started as a simple html site but fairly soon I added php functionality when I wrote the discussion board, and the site evolved.
When John approached me with an offer to take over running the website and to re-build it, I suggested that he use Drupal. I have already built two sites using Drupal and have discovered its power and flexibility. There are many, many benefits of using a CMS but one of the main advantages is that the function of updating and adding new content can be easily shared amongst a team of users, instead of everything being done by one person. This is big improvement over the existing site, where I have to do every single page update.
The members area has a link to Johns new website so that Anvil Chorus members can test out the new functionality before the site goes pubilc.Jonathan
